Kurdistan Parliament to
debate Personal Status bill
Erbil: The Council of Representatives in Iraq’s
Kurdistan region is scheduled to debate the draft
Personal Status law during its Monday session,www.ekurd.net
a Kurdish
parliamentarian said.
“Some members of parliament have objected to some
paragraphs of the draft law related to monogamy,
equality between men and women in inheritance, and
women’s right to divorce,” MP Ghafour Makhmouri told
VOI.
Makhmouri, who is the head of the Democratic
National Union of Kurdistan, ruled out a vote on the
draft law during tomorrow’s session in light of the
controversial points.
Patriarch of Assyrian Eastern Church arrives in
Kurdistan Region
His Holiness, Mardinkha IV, the Patriarch of the
Assyrian Eastern Church in the world accompanied by
a number of clergymen in Europe, Australia and USA
arrived in Kurdistan region Saturday.
The delegation was received by Muhammad Shakly,www.ekurd.net
the KRG minister of
religious endowments, Nawzad Hadi, the governor of
Erbil, the deputy governor of Duhok province,
archbishop Raban of Hawler and Amedi and a number of
priests. Then they headed to Mar Yohana Church in
Einkawa and were received by the area’s residents.
The delegation will meet the senior officials in
Kurdistan region.
200million US$ allocations
for implementation committee of Article 140
The Iraqi government allocated 200 million US$ for
the committee of the implementation of Article 140
of the Iraqi constitution within the next year’s
budget. The news was announced by Raed Fahmi, the
head of the committee and the Iraqi minister of
science and technology in an exclusive statement to
al-Sabah newspaper. Fahmi said that the committee
focused on the first part of the constitutional
Article regarding the normalization of the
situations in the disputed areas and particularly in
Kirkuk province where the committee started a
project to return back the displaced families and
the immigrants to the places they came from.
Services project launched
in Erbil
Erbil: Work has begun on a services project in Erbil
province at a cost of nearly 820 million Iraqi
dinars, a senior local official said on Saturday.
“Today, the local Korout Company initiated work on a
project to tile and link the main road in Hiran
district (20 km east of Shaqlawa) to the roads of
Freez and Mama Jalka,” the head of Erbil’s Hiran
district, Suwara Akram, said. Shaqlawa, a popular
summer resort in Iraq, lies 51 km northeast of Erbil
city.
Yawer: We refuse the
Supporting Councils
In a private statement to PUKmedia website, the
official spokesman of Kurdistan Region Guard Forces
(Peshmerga) Major General Jabar Yawer said “the
Kurdish leadership stood against forming the Sahwa
and Supporting Councils in the disputed areas,
because they were formed from the tribes, which make
them a militias and unorganized forces.”
“These councils can pose a real danger on the
security situation in the area, where they can be
used politically or in an aim to create problems
between the components of these areas. We consider
these councils as an enlivening for the tribal
spirit. The security forces are controlling the
situation in these areas and there is no need to
form unorganized forces”, Yawer added.
Yawer mentioned that the political officials in
Kirkuk strongly stood against forming the Supporting
Councils in the province. He described the people
who are participating in these councils as traitors
and called on the people of these areas not to
cooperate in forming them.
