President Barzani Gives Speech in Rome’s
Democracy Coalition Conference
The Democracy Coalition Conference started in
Italy’s capital Rome. Many world’s Democratic
Partie’s presidents and representatives attended the
event. Many speeches were given in the opening
session. The President of Kurdistan region Massoud
Barzani, also gave a speech to the conference saying
that the Kurdish People struggled from the beginning
till now for the sake of democracy, and prosperity.
He also said that democracy as a system protects the
human rights and permits developments of various
cultures and religions. Also it creates balanced
relations between the citizen and the state.
“Since 2003 we spent efforts to establish democracy
principles in Kurdistan. We made good steps
concerning that issue. Our experiment is new and
still incomplete, yet our citizen’s willingness
moves us for more work in order to wipe out any
incompleteness. We hope other parts of Iraq to get
advantage from Kurdistan Region’s experience”,
Barzani said.
“We are in need of all sides support in order to
build a Federal and Democratic Iraq. I seize the
opportunity to ask your support to enhance the
infrastructure of Kurdistan region which is stable
and secure”, he added
Barzani also talked about Iraq’s permanent
constitution. He referred that more than 80% of
Iraqi People voted on it and it guarantees all Iraqi
People’s rights and set the Federal System as a base
in building the new state of Iraq.
KRG Ministry of Culture to Commemorate Baban
Principality and Sulaimaniyah Foundations
The KRG Ministry of Culture has decided to
commemorate the foundation of Baban Principality and
Sulaimaniyah city on November 14th.
“As Mr. Jamal Baban suggested that the foundation of
Baban Principality to be commemorated, the KRG
Ministry of Culture has decided to commemorate the
event coincidently with the foundation of
Sulaimaniyah city,” Nawzad Abdul Aziz, Advisor at
the KRG Ministry of Culture told PUKmedia on
Wednesday.
“It is expected that at the sidelines of the
commemoration a number of historic sources like
books and researches about Baban Principality will
be reprinted. A plastic art exhibiting on the
details of the Baban Principality to be opened .A
documentary film on Baban Principality will be
shown. Redesigning the sculpture of the Kurdish
prince Ibrahim Pasha Baban, who named Sulaimaniyah
for his father Sulaiman Pasha, will be conducted as
well.
Italian Expo to open Trade Fair in Sulaimaniyah
Abdulla Haji Saed, the Assistant of PUK Secretary
General for commercial affairs, met today with
Angelo Caspani, the Secretary General of the Italian
Expo in Sulaimaniyah.
During the meeting, Angelo Caspani expressed his
readiness to open a fair for the products of the
Italian companies in Sulaimaniyah. In addition, he
agreed to have an office, similar to that recently
opened in Erbil, for the Italian companies in
Sulaimaniyah. On his part, Abdulla Haji Saed,
affirmed his support to help them open the office in
Sulaimaniyah. The Italian Axis Fairs & Services
Company chaired by Angelo Caspani has organized two
trade shows so far for the Italian companies in
different fields of industry and technology in
Kurdistan region.
KRG Calls for Extra Budget from Baghdad
KRG Planning Minister, Othman Shwani, said KRG sent
its project plans to Baghdad to ensure supplementary
budget from the federal government.
The supplementary budget is allocated only for
investment and reconstruction projects and it is
irrelevant to the operating budget. In addition to
the basic budget allocated by the federal
government, Kurdistan region is supposed to receive
a budget equivalent to 17 percent of Iraq’s
supplementary income. “Pursuant to this percentage,
the supplementary budget of Kurdistan region for the
previous six months is estimated by $ 5 billion,
Shwani revealed. As the price of oil recently rose
in the world market, the Iraq’s overall income for
2008 reaches $ 100 billion while the estimated
income was about $ 50 billion.
“Iraqi government will probably plan the second
phase of the supplementary budget for the next six
months,” Shwani added.
Kurdistan Region Vice President Meets Commander
of Korean Zaytun Division
Kurdistan Region Vice President Mr. Kosrat Rasul Ali
met today with General Park, commander of Korean
Zaytun Division and his accompanied delegation, in
the presence of Mr. Bakir Mustafa, head of PUK’s
Organizations in Erbil city.
General Park introduced a briefing on his division’s
work and activities in Kurdistan Region. The General
said “despite that our budget was reduced, but our
efforts will go on to support peace and construction
in Kurdistan Region and Iraq”.
He also called on Vice President to support them in
carrying out their projects. Mr. Kosrat Rasul
praised the works and projects of Zaytun Division in
Erbil City, and expressed his intention to support
them for the benefits of Kurdistan’s people,
especially the martyrs’ families.
