Kurdistan Region Counter-terrorism Law to be
Extended
It is expected that the Kurdistan Region National
Assembly to extend the Kurdistan region
counter-terrorism law for two years in his coming
session on Sunday June 29th. The expected two-year
extension is upon a joint demand by the KRG and
several lawmakers in Kurdistan Region National
Assembly, Awni Bazaz deputy chairman of the legal
committee of the Kurdistan Region Parliament said.
Kurdistan region counter-terrorism law has been
passed for two years in July 16th, 2006, he added.
Iraqi Ministry for Justice May be Run by
Kurdistan Alliance Bloc
It is expected that the Ministry for Justice in the
new Iraqi government reshuffling to be given to the
Kurdistan Alliance Bloc in the Iraqi Council of
Representatives according to political agreements
reached among the parliamentary blocs, a close
source told Kurdistani Nwe Kurdish daily newspaper
on Friday. Until now no one has been appointed by
the Kurdistan Alliance Bloc to take the post.
Kurdistan Team to Participate in Regions FIFA
Championship in Sweden
During a press conference held by the Kurdistan
Soccer Union, the Representative of the KRG Ministry
for Sport and Youth Muhammad Sidiq said that nine of
Kurdish football players in Europe will join the
Kurdistan Team in order to participate in the
Regions FIFA Championship which is going to be held
in Sweden on July 6th. Sidiq, emphasized that a team
formed from the Kurdish women who are living in
Europe will also represent Kurdistan region in the
championship.
KRG PM Returns to Erbil
The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional
Government (KRG) Nechirvan Barzani concluded his
visit to Baghdad and returned to Erbil, Thursday.
Barzani, during his visit launched a number of
discussions with the officials in Baghdad’s Federal
Government concerning the top issues between both
sides. He met PM al-Maliki and discussed with him
issues like the Oil-Gas, Peshmerga and the oil
contracts which were signed by the KRG with the
foreign oil companies. Barzani also attended a
triple meeting between the Patriotic Union of
Kurdistan (PUK), the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP)
and the Iraqi Islamic Supreme Council. He also met
the US Ambassador in Iraq, Ryan Crocker. They
discussed Iraq’s Situation and the obstacles which
hinder the political and democratic process in Iraq.
MAG Continues Removal of Cluster Bombs in
Kurdistan Region
A source in the British MAG Organization which is
specialized in eliminating the unexploded cluster
bombs emphasized that MAG’s work is continuous to
remove the bombs which were dropped by the coalition
forces in 1991 war on the Iraqi army camps near
Duhok province.
During an interview with radio Sawa, Ator Hadu, a
manger in the organization said “The Mine Removing
Team is eliminating the bombs which were found in
Bagloja village in Batel sub-district in Smell
district, Duhok province and the others found in
Henjerok village in Zelgtan in Shekhan district.”
It’s worth mentioning that MAG organizations started
its work in Kurdistan Region in 1992. MAG tried to
expand its program to cover Nineveh province but it
was unsuccessful in that project due unstable
situation there.
PUK Spokesman: Socialist International to
Recognize PUK as Active Member
The spokesman of Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK),
Mala Bakhtiyar, said that PUK will be officially
recognized as an active member of Socialist
International during the upcoming Congress of the
Socialist International scheduled to be held in
Athens, Greece from June 30th to July 2nd.
“This event will be positively reflected on the PUK
members not only in PUK itself, but also in
Kurdistan Regional Parliament or Iraqi government or
KRG,” Mala Bakhtiyar said while he considered such
recognition as turning point in the history of PUK.
“The PUK membership in that international
organization (SI) is the consequence of PUK’s stance
and its constant defense of democracy, justice and
equality.” Speaking to Newsmatic news agency before
leaving Ankara to Athens, Mala Bakhtiyar, ascribed
the PUK membership in Socialist International to the
effective role of PUK Secretary General, Mam Jalal.
As Mala Bakhtiyar said, 30 state presidents, 150
ruling parties and 51 opposition parties will attend
the congress. Citing from the Socialist
International website, the congress will address
four key issues which are at the heart of the
worldwide social democratic movement today and at
the centre of the international community’s
concerns: climate change, peace and the resolution
of conflicts, the world economy and the question of
migration. Mala Bakhtiyar referred to the duties and
responsibilities of PUK after being a member in
Socialist International, saying that it should play
more active role to confront joblessness and
pollution to protect the humanity and provide
prosperity for all individuals in the society.
Duhok Governor Calls American Companies to Invest
in Kurdistan
Mr. Tamar Ramadhan, the governor of Duhok Province
and his accompanied delegation arrived in American
Pennsylvania State and was received by the state’s
governor and a number of officials. This visit came
in response to an official invitation from the
State’s governor.
Duhok governor made a speech in front of
Pennsylvania’s State Parliament and talked about the
stable situation in Kurdistan Region and the
developments in all the fields. The governor said
that the American companies can come and work in
Kurdistan Region, especially after issuing the law
of investment by Kurdistan Region Parliament. Later,
Duhok governor met Pennsylvania State governor and
his deputy, where they discussed the stable
situation in Kurdistan and the available abilities
for American businessmen to invest and work in
Kurdistan, especially in Duhok Province.
Pennsylvania State governor expressed his happiness
for their visit and emphasized that he will do his
best to open the way for American companies and
businessmen to travel to Kurdistan. The Kurdish
delegation also met with the supreme organizations
of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture chambers in
Pennsylvania State.
KRG to Republish UN First Analysis with Kurdish
Leadership Recommendation Appendix
The KRG Coordinator to United Nations, Dindar Zebari,
met Thursday in Erbil with Shayne Kean, the Chief of
UNAMI Political Affairs Office in Baghdad. Shayne
Kean paid a visit to Erbil to meet the Kurdish
officials to discuss the disputes over the Kurdistan
region’s disintegrated areas. During the meeting,
Zebari called for implementing Article 140 and
annexing those areas to Kurdistan region according
to the constitution. He also talked about the public
dissent in Kurdistan region against the UN first
analysis to Iraqi government. “Pursuant to the
realistic facts presented by the Kurdish leadership,
the UN first analysis is expected to be
republished,” Zebari said. The KRG Coordinator to
United Nations called on the Chief of UNAMI
Political Affairs to strengthen its role in
Kurdistan region. The UN official visits to the
disintegrated areas are expected to be continued to
consider the realistic facts in the upcoming UN
reports about those areas including Kirkuk.
