ERBIL-SULAIMANIYAH-DUHOK,
Kurdistan region 'Iraq', — Peshkewtin List a runner
for the next Kurdistan election accuses
the Kurdish security forces, known as Asayish of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP)
of threatening to kill their supporters in areas
controlled by KDP, reported a communiqué issued by
Peshkewtin List this week.
Peshkewtin List (The Progress List), led by
Kurdistan’s presidential candidate
Halo Ibrahim Ahmed
in a communiqué stated that in one of the districts
of Duhok governorate,www.ekurd.net
the KDP security
services, known as Asayish, destroyed their election
promotion literate and threatens to kill their
supporters.
The communiqué stated, “On 26th June 2009 at 8:00pm,
in the village of Siladze, while members of the
election team of Peshkewtin List hanging up
promotion flyers, members of Asayish destroyed them
and threaten to kill their activists.”
This is a clear violation of the election rules.
To launch the Kurdstani List, Barham Saleh, the
current deputy Primer of Iraq,www.ekurd.net
stated, “Don’t allow
hardliners and troublemakers to disturb democratic
and civil struggle.”
The Kurdistani list is the lists of the two dominate
political groups Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK),
led by Jalal Talabani, and Kurdistan Democratic
Party (KDP), led by Massoud Barzani.
Kurdish colonel arrested
for supporting ‘change’
The website of the Kurdish Change list
(Gorran) reported
that Colonel Dindar Yusif Kalash, a officer in the
Kurdish Peshmerga forces, has been arrested and
imprisoned by the KDP for supporting the Goran list.
The news cannot be confirmed by independent sources.
So far pro-KDP media didn’t report anything about
it.
The Change "Goran"
List, was formed by PUK’s former second in
command, Nawshirwan Mustafa
. Mustafa, a former deputy leader and co-founder of PUK plans to head a political
group of independents called "Change" in the
region's upcoming parliamentary elections. He left Patriotic Union of
Kurdistan party (PUK)
in December 2006,www.ekurd.net
now owns a powerful media company, Wisha, the
company, which includes a television station,
newspaper and website, is now independent and highly
critical of local leaders.
Riot Police and Supporters
Clash in Sulaimaniyah

reports from
Sulaimaniyah that there were clashes between
Kurdistani list supporters and Gorani list
supporters in Sulaimaniyah. But the riot police
interfered with tazers (without supporting any
faction). Afterwards Saholaka street in was closed
down by the Kurdish police.
