Baghdad: The Kurdistan Alliance stands within the
same distance of all political blocs that have won
the election, a member of the alliance said on
Saturday. “Until now we have had no negotiations
with other blocs to learn which of them is the
closest to us,” Sami Shorsh told Aswat al-Iraq news
agency. He explained that any talks so far have been
abstract. “We have been listening to what they say
more than talking to them,” Shorsh stressed. He
noted that serious negotiations with other blocs to
form the new Iraqi government will commence after a

Kurd to keep “open vision”
in formation of new Iraqi government
Erbil: Kurdish political powers on Saturday agreed
to employ “open vision” when dealing with all other
Iraqi political blocs in the formation of a new
Iraqi government. “Kurds seek coalition government
that represent all Iraqi components,” said a
presidential release received by Aswat al-Iraq news
agency. The statement stressed that future political
agreements should rely on a clear program that

Kurdish pop star to help
poor children
The famous Kurdish pop singer Zakaria said that he
will give a part of the profits of his latest album
White Page to the poor children in Kurdistan. The
popular singer also has plans to establish a Charity
Organization in Kurdistan named after his new album
(White Page Charity Organization). Zakaria said he
wants to do something back for the poor with this
organization. “[The goal is] to help the poor and
uneducated children and so they can have bright
future. " Zakaria is one of the famous Kurdish
singers in the world and is originally from Erbil,
the Kurdish regional capital. He currently lives in
Sweden. His new album White Page will be released

Lebanese PM and Speaker to
visit Kurdistan
Erbil: The Education Minister of Kurdistan Regional
Government (KRG), a member of the delegation
accompanying Kurdistan leader Massoud Barzani during
his visit to Lebanon, announced that Lebanese Prime
Minister Saad Al Hariri and Speaker Nabih Berri
affirmed that they will visit Kurdistan soon. During
their meeting with Barzani, Al Hariri and Berri
confirmed their plan to visit Kurdistan as soon as

2 Syrian workers killed in
accident near Sulaimaniyah
Sulaimaniyah: Two Syrian workers were killed in a
traffic accident near the district of Klar, south of
Sulaimaniyah province, on Saturday, a local security
source said. “Two civilian vehicles collided near
the village of Bardat Sur, between the district of
Darbindikhan and Klar, (140 km) south of
Sulaimaniyah, leaving two workers of Syrian
nationality killed,” Lt. Kamran Jassem, an officer
in Klar hospital, told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
“The hospital received the two bodies while the
police started investigating the accident,” he

Russian ambassador to Iraq
pays visit to Halabja Town
On Friday April 16, the Russian ambassador to Iraq
Valerie Shovaev and Vagif Garaev and Russian general
consul in Kurdistan Region paid a visit to Halabja
district. They received by the town’s mayor, Goran
Adham, local politicians, government officials and
the families of the victims of Halabja. In a press
release, Goran Adham described the diplomats visit
to Halabja as great and a positive shift in
relations between both sides, especially when Russia
was one of the states that had supported the former
Iraqi regime in some issues. Halabja mayor also
hoped for good relation with Russian. For his part,
the Russian Ambassador said, “this visit is the
first paid by the Russian officials to Halabja and
we reached to an agreement on paying more visits to
the town and contributing in the rebuilding process
here.” During his trip, the Russian Ambassador paid
a visit to the Halabja Monument and laid a bunch of
flowers at the monument expressing his sympathy and
condolence to the families of martyrs. Halabja is
the Kurdish town that was on March 16, 1988,
bombarded by chemical weapons at the hand of former
Iraqi dictator. More than 5000 civilians were killed

Runaki festival to
celebrate Kurdish culture in the UK
London: The Kurdish Charity organization GULAN and
St. Ethelburga’s Centre for Reconciliation and Peace
will organize the second Runaki Festival in London
on 24-25 April 2010. The festival will be an
exhibition of works by contemporary Kurdish artists
including: ceramics by Ronak (artist based in
Sulaimaniyah); photography by Shahrouz Sharifi and
Hawri; and paintings by artists including Cemo,
Hayder and Simko. It also includes a movie.

Chinese shopping mall opens
in Sulaimaniyah
Sulaimaniyah: A Kurdish-Chinese venture is open for
business. With the promise of low prices and quality
goods, Kaso Mall takes Sulaimaniyah by storm.
"Kurds are going up and up," said Tim Sun, a young
Chinese man running Kaso Mall in Sulaimaniyah. Mr.
Sun was explaining the growth of the economy in
Sulaimaniyah, the second-largest city in Kurdistan
Region. Opening earlier this month, Kaso Mall is a
joint Chinese-Kurdish investment with 70 percent of
Chinese shares, located in the city center opposite
Mzgawti Gawra, the Great Mosque--a well-known
signpost. It has four shopping floors and two floors
for parking. The posh shopping center is decorated
inside with stunning Chinese objects, and four
flags--two Chinese flags, and between them an
Iraqi-Kurdistan flag--on the barrier of the first
floor facing the entrance. Kaso Mall adds fresh
color to the variety of investment already on the

Carrefour to open its first
Iraq store in Erbil
The superstore will become part of an
already-prestigious shopping complex. The United
Arab Emirates company, with a licence to operate the
Carrefour franchise in the Middle East, is opening
its first store in Iraq in September as part of a
wider expansion plan in the region. Renowned French
hypermarket chain Carrefour will open its first Iraq
store by the end of 2010 in Kurdistan Region with a
license from the United Arab Emirates franchise,
announced a source from Darin Company in Erbil.
"For the last eight months, we have been in contact
with Carrefour about opening a store in Kurdistan
Region; finally, they have agreed to do so," said a
senior executive from Erbil-based Darin Company to
"The Kurdish Globe." The company official spoke on
condition of anonymity because he was not allowed to
make media statements regarding the yet unannounced
