Mahmoud Othman: Killing the journalist
Osman is a first of a kind incident in Kurdistan
May 21, 2010
"The incident of kidnapping and killing Sardasht
Osman is the first of its kind in Kurdistan region,
and arresting the perpetrators is very important for
the benefit of the region”, Mahmoud Othman, the
Kurdish politician and leader in Kurdistan Alliance
said on Friday.
"The security services must speed up in revealing
the offenders.... The case caused great reactions,
as foreign and European journalists sent a letter to
the president of Kurdistan region Massoud Barzani
after the incident."
Revealing who did the crime is important for the
region because it would reveal the party responsible
for the killing of the 23 young journalist, he

perpetrators would put an end to mutual
recriminations and reveal the real party that
carried out this crime. It will also prove the
success of security forces in apprehending the
criminals, maintenance of security and prevent the
re-occurrence of more similar crimes."
On the fourth of May 2010 the young journalist Sardasht Osman was abducted in broad daylight
outside Hawler University in Erbil in Northern Iraq.
Four armed and hooded persons forced him into a car
and 36 hours later his tortured
body was found in Mosul. He had two bullet holes in the head.
The Kurdish journalist Sardasht Osman was critical
of the Kurdistan regional government KRG and its
head, Massoud Barzani.
He wrote extensively on how corrupted Barzani’s
government has become. But it seems the Barzanis –
the powerful tribe which Massoud leads – could not
tolerate his criticism,www.ekurd.netparticularly in an article
which appeared in the online journal, Kurdistan
last article, "I
will marry Barzani's daughter" was a
satire of the privileges you would carry if you did
belong to the family of the Kurdish Prime Minister
Barzani and the death threats the young journalist
had been receiving would also stop.
