German Consulate to issue visas in Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan  28.5.2010

May 28, 2010

ERBIL-Hewlêr, Kurdistan region 'Iraq', — The Deputy for German Economic Minister and the Representative of German Consulate in Erbil, held a press conference on May 27 in Erbil, shedding light on some common issues between Germany and Kurdistan Region.

“We are engaged in talks with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) over the issue of deporting (Kurdish) refugees (in Germany) to get at a breakthrough”, said Dr. Jörg Grotjohan, the Representative of German Consul in Erbil.

“We are lagging far behind our work for issuing visas for the Kurdish citizens due to setting up our consulate office”, he argued, adding “If we don’t encounter further problems, we may deal out some visas by the next month”.

However, there are some technical issues which should be set ahead of the work, according to Dr. Jörg Grotjohan.

“Depending on some political and economical principles we established our office for relations, industry and trade in Kurdistan Region as we enjoy a close relation with Kurds”,
www.ekurd.netsaid Karl Ernest Brauner, the German Minister of Economy’s Deputy for Foreign Trade and Investment.

Kurdistan is quite different from Iraq with respect to its security and moderate policy, argued Ernest, adding the region demands investment in all fields, providing a big opportunity for settling a business.

“Kurdistan is now autonomous over deciding for its own natural resources”, Ernest added, underlying “We accentuate more on this region as we feel safe here”.

Volker Wildner, the Official for the German Relations, Industry and Trade in Erbil told AKnews “We began working on this office since the beginning of this year and I will leave for Germany for a fortnight duration to attract the German investors to Kurdistan Region”.
