Restored Article 140 political deal contravenes with constitution

Baghdad: Independent MP confirmed on Moday that the restoration of Article 140 of the constitution on the disputed areas was done by "a political deal" which is "in violation of the constitution". In a statement issued Monday, that the formation of a new committee on Article 140 was done by "a political deal between the conferees in Najaf and Erbil meetings". Iraqiya bloc, the Kurdish Alliance and the Sadrist Ahrar bloc held a series of meetings in Arbil (28 April, 2012), Najaf (19 May 2012) and Arbil (28 May, 2012) during their attempts to withdraw confidence from Premier Nouri al-Maliki. The attempt did not succeed for many reasons, including the non-approval of President Jalal Talabani, not having enough votes and the change in Sadrist stand towards reforms. Sayadi added that the work of the committee will be "in violation of the constitution and the law", according to the statement.
