LONDON,— A rain of Eggs have been thrown by Kurdish protesters at the Prime minister of so-called Kurdistan Region Government (KRG) Masrour Barzani’s car outside a building in London, where Barzani delivered a speech at the Chatham House think-tank on Wednesday.
Around 300 angry protesters shouted “Barzani terrorist, mafia, mafia”, as they have accused the Barzanis of corruption, suppressing freedom of expression, violation of human rights, and monarchical ruling in Iraqi Kurdistan region.
The videos of the protest have been circulated widely on social media.
Masrour Barzani arrived in London on Monday on an official visit and has met British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and other senior UK government officials.
Iraqi Kurdistan region considered as the most corrupted part of Iraq. According to watchdogs, Kurdish lawmakers and leaked documents billions of dollars are missing from oil revenues.
For decades, the Kurdistan Democratic Party KDP of Barzani clan has lorded over the region. The clan is routinely accused of corruption.
According to local and international analysts and watchdogs the lack of control mechanisms in Iraqi Kurdistan makes it a paradise for illegal financial activities by the Kurdish ruling leaders.
Iraqi Kurdistan-ruling Barzani clan, known as the Kurdish oligarchs, have been routinely accused by critics and observers of neptunism and amassing huge wealth from oil business for the family instead of serving the population.
Massoud Barzani, remains the most powerful leader in the shadow according to analysts. Massoud’s son Masrour is the Kurdistan region’s prime minister and his nephew Nechirvan Barzani is the president of Kurdistan.
